The Serra do Mar State Park is the largest protected area in the Atlantic Forest. It was created in 1977, covers just 332,000 hectares and is actually part of the Atlantic Forest South-East Reserves, a World Heritage Site. Even if the park is situated in one of the most urbanised regions of Brazil, it is a true ecological corridor linking the most significant remnants of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, from Rio de Janeiro to Paraná States. The park contains some traditional communities of quilombolas, indians, caipiras and caiçaras. The forest provides refuge to hundreds of species of birds and other animals.

Actually, just the 7% of the original Atlantic Forest survives, but the province of Ubatuba is covered by more than 90% of its terrytory by forest! Here we can observe the 30% of Brazilian birds and 5% of all birds on the planet!

Come to know this wealth and immense environmental heritage!
